The Samba—one of adidas's most enduring silhouettes—has undergone a curious transformation. Rather than staying confined to its original soccer lineage or streetwear dominance, it's now being reimagined as bowling equipment, a creative detour that feels both absurd and inevitable in a moment where functional categorization has become increasingly fluid.
The concept itself isn't new to adidas. Designer Edison Chen previously took this same unconventional path, outfitting the Superstar with platform soles and animal-print treatments that signaled a deliberate blurring of sportswear codes. What followed was a broader initiative that saw the Changle, Predator, and Angu receive similar treatment. The Samba, given its cultural weight and retail ubiquity, was always going to be next.
