JJJJound x New Balance 1890 Releases June 25
The Montreal-based design collective JJJJound is adding another chapter to its prolific New Balance partnership with an official collaboration on the 1890 retro runner. Two colorways drop June 25, each reflecting the label's signature minimalist ethos applied to New Balance's maximalist runner construction.

JJJJound has cultivated one of sneaker culture's most consistent editorial visions, and its ongoing relationship with New Balance stands as proof. Over a dozen releases deep, the partnership continues to elevate runners once considered peripheral to the brand's legacy. Now the collective turns its attention to the 1890, joining a broader rollout that already counts Stone Island, Joe Freshgoods, and Action Bronson among its custodians.

The collaboration yields two distinct interpretations. The first pair embraces a collegiate aesthetic—white and grey leather with yellow trim—a natural reading of the 1890's sporty DNA. It's clean, archive-minded, and speaks to New Balance's deeper heritage as a performance institution.

The second offering, however, reads as the true JJJJound statement. Black uppers paired with white trim establish a stark contrast that aligns with the collective's utilitarian design philosophy. The pairing of off-white ABZORB midsole units creates visual tension between minimalism and the 1890's inherently bulky silhouette—a deliberate collision between restraint and maximalism that defines much of JJJJound's recent work.
